PSLE Chinese Oral Video Conversation Guide - How To Get High Marks?

Video description is an important part in oral exam, it takes up 20 marks, which is 10% of the total mark of Chinese papers. It asks candidates to describe what the video talks about in clear sequence, and give their own views and feelings based on the video content.

Candidates will have 5 minutes to prepare before the exam, for short essay reading and video description. Candidates should spend 3 minutes on video description. In this precious 3 minutes, they should observe the video carefully, and take note of the following:

1. Time, Place And Figures
2. Divide Figures Into Groups Relative To Each Other
3. Order These Groups In Certain Sequence
4. Find Out Figures That Need To Pay Attention On, Especially Those With Bad Or Good Actions

When describing the video, you need to follow the format :

  1. Opening (这段视频描述的是...)
  2. Description Sequence
    Make sure you describe with accurate words and never give names to the figures in the video, for example:
    '那个扎着马尾的女生' is better than 那个女生'
    '一个戴着眼镜、背着书包的男同学' is better than '一个男生'
  3. Views And Feelings (我生气/担心...) (我认为他们不应该...而是应该...)
    Besides describe the video in sequence, candidates are also required to talk about their views and feelings based on the video content. When candidates describe the video, they will mention some bad behaviors and good behaviors which we can talk about. Without views and feelings, it will not be a complete video description.
  4. Advice And Suggestions
    Besides views and feelings, candidates who want to achieve full marks can try to give their own suggestions, which are the solutions to those special behaviors.
  5. Ending (总的来说...)

Other Things To Take Note Of :

  1. DO NOT make up a story, only describe the content of the picture.
  2. Must speak in sequence and order.
  3. DO NOT name the figures in the video.
  4. Key figures should have detailed description, like the clothes, hairs,etc. For example,
    '戴着眼镜的女士...', '扎着马尾的女孩子...', '穿着衬衫、打着领带的中年男士...'.
  5. DO NOT forget the scene, for example, the buildings, woods, flowers, indicator and tables.
  6. Conclusion is necessary.
